The community came together on October 29 in Plouffe Park to provide spooky fun for local children and talk about the future of the park. 200 parents and children attended.

The P4X Coalition had planned an event that weekend, and discovered that parents led by Poplar Street resident Jane Harley had a similar idea. They joined up, recruited volunteers, and devised 20 Hallowe’en-themed games which kept kids moving and enthralled.

Kids stomped to get ghosts to fly in the air, carried eyeballs in a spoon relay race, carved and rolled pumpkins, had their faces painted, played ghoulish golf, and more. Harley said the 60 treat bags she made were quickly given out.

Harley said she bought most of the game material at a dollar store and gave it a Hallowe’en twist, and some parents loaned games. The crowd-sourced collective effort went off really well, she said, and she’s interested in putting it on again next year.
