The BUZZ has 8 very packed pages this month! A few highlights:

For your holiday amusement, we have a Centretown-themed crossword. Many thanks to Cassandra Morton, who created it! Need to check your answers? We have the answer key at centretownbuzz.ca/2022/12/a-centretown-buzz-crossword-the-park-in-our-heart-answer-key/

As the convoy occupation continued last February, Ottawa residents increasingly fought back with peaceful protests. At the Public Order Emergency Commission hearings in late November, we learned – from the Prime Minister, no less! – that those protests had more of an effect than first thought.

The class action lawsuit to compensate central-area residents, businesses, and workers for what they endured during the occupation has named more defendants, and fought off an attempt by convoy organizers to get access to some of the escrowed funds. We tell you how.

The Ford government’s Bill 23, which we told you about last month, may have passed the legislature, but it’s only gained opposition from groups across the political spectrum. And as for what it will do to the City of Ottawa budget… We take you to the latest protest against the bill where nine organizations and four city councillors came together.

After 2 1/2 years, the detour on the Trillium Pathway just north of Gladstone Avenue is finally removed and the pathway straight again. We have a photo of one of the happy users (and more photos on The BUZZ website.)

Kari Glynes Elliott, a board member of Ottawa Transit Riders, wasn’t surprised at the scathing conclusions in Justice William Hourigan’s final report from his Ottawa Light Rail Transit Commission. She explains why in our interview on The BUZZ website.

The Ottawa People’s Commission into the effect of the convoy occupation wrapped up its hearings last weekend, and expects to release an interim report next month. Learn how you can still submit testimony to the commission.

Marguerite Hanna started her acting career at Elgin Street Public School – and is now starring in a vampire series on SYFY. She talks about how the character she plays was tailored specifically for her.

We have two stories on how to become more climate-resilient: one about the recent panel discussion sponsored by local community associations, and the other a new column by Cathy Woodgold, this month talking about food choices.

Stephen Thirlwall watched a webinar from the Smart Growth Network in the U.S. on the essential value of street trees in city-making, and was inspired to apply some of its lessons here in Centretown.

And we have suggestions for films, concerts, shows, and an outdoor multimedia show for the holiday season.

And lastly, please stay well this holiday season! Our overstressed and overworked healthcare workers need your support during the current hospital crisis. Wearing a mask indoors and on buses and the LRT is a simple and effective way to reduce the spread of viruses and keep everyone safe. And if you or your family haven’t had this year’s flu shot or are overdue for a COVID-19 booster, please book a shot at your local pharmacy or at Ottawa Public Health.
