The race is on for City Council, school boards

The race is on for the 2022-26 Ottawa City Council and local school boards.

Candidate registration opened May 2, marking the start of the formal election period culminating in election day on October 24.

Once registered, candidates can start raising and spending funds on their campaigns.

Three running in Somerset Ward

Registered to run for city councillor in Somerset Ward are Brandon Russell (see the interview with Russell in the May BUZZ) and Stuart MacKay (see the interview in the April BUZZ). Ariel Troster (see the interview in the January BUZZ) said she will be registering in mid-June.

Seven for Mayor

Running for mayor are City Councillor Catherine McKenney (see the interview in the January BUZZ), and former Ottawa mayor and Ontario cabinet minister Bob Chiarelli. Also in the race for mayor are Brandon Bay, Bernard Couchman, Graham MacDonald, Param Singh, and Ade Olumide.

Incumbents running for school trustees

The current trustees for three local school boards have registered to run again: Justine Bell (Ottawa-Carleton District School Board Zone 10), Cindy Desclouds-Simpson (Ottawa Catholic School Board Zone 10), and Marielle Godbout (Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario Zone 9). Cameron Bonesso is also running for the Ottawa Catholic School Board in Zone 10.
