The August 2020 issue of the Centretown BUZZ, Centretown’s community newspaper, is out!

We’re back on the street with this issue, and are distributing printed copies to homes and businesses across Centretown. Look for a copy in your mailbox or at your favourite shop.

You can also read this month’s newspaper online here, or as a flipbook. We also have a high-res version for printing your own copy.

We cover the neighbourhood in this eight-page issue:

  • learn why Somerset Ward, the city ward which encompasses Centretown, might disappear as of the next election in 2022 – and what you can do about it
  • read our tribute to David Gladstone, a gadfly, committed activist, local music fan, and BUZZ columnist and photographer, who loved Centretown
  • see how Capital Pride’s annual celebration has gone virtual
  • find out what the new documentary, Blue Roses Bloom in Centretown, says about the local housing situation
  • become part of preserving Centretown’s heritage
  • discover music, art, films, street murals, and plays to enjoy
  • try out new recipes for summer’s bounty

We feature many voices this month:

  • Jessie Duffy of Arlington 5 tells her first-person story of how Cooking for a Cause extends the neighbourhood table
  • Ryan Lythall explains the advantages to businesses of acknowledging those with disabilities
  • the Canadian Association of Retired Persons outlines a new model for long-term care homes
  • Councillor Catherine McKenney explains the need for a LeBreton Flats community benefits arrangement
  • MPP Joel Harden analyzes the problems with provincial back to school plans
  • Gail McGuire teams up with her grandson to explain how local gardens sustain monarch butterflies on their long journey south
