Staff are proposing that the Ottawa public board conduct an accommodation study in the Near West area of the district during the 2012-13 school year that could potentially affect Elgin St. Public School. School accommodation reviews examine programming and facilities within a defined area of the board and can result in school boundary and program changes, and possible school closures. The review in question is intended to address significant overcrowding at Elmdale PS, Devonshire Community PS and Agincourt Road PS, as well as the underutilization of other schools, including Hilson Ave. PS, Connaught PS and W.E. Gowling PS. In the event that Elgin St. Public School is included in the Near West Accommodation Review, the school community, as well as the broader community around the school, will be entitled to representation on the Accommodation Review Committee (ARC) that will conduct the review and make recommendations to the board.
