Editorial: convoy violence achieved nothing
Editorial: Freedom for whom?
Centretown has been the epicentre of the occupation. Residents lost access to buses, libraries, and museums. The BUZZ heard repeated accounts of people being threatened on the street, and intimidation of store staff when they tried to enforce provincial mask rules. Staff at the Shepherds of Good Hope were forced to give meals meant for the homeless to occupiers. The National War Memorial was dishonoured.
From the editor: 2022 elections raise important issues
This month, The BUZZ won’t be in print. We know that many of you prefer it on newsprint, but with the latest highly-infectious spike in the COVID-19 pandemic, we didn’t want to risk the health of our volunteer delivery team…
From the editor: congrats to our contributors!
Editorial: Remembering that there’s a world out there
Alayne McGregor This is my 12th edition of The BUZZ as managing editor. The day after my first issue was dropped off across Centretown last March, everything shut down because of the pandemic. It’s been a strange ride ever since.…
From the managing editor’s desk
Alayne McGregor The Centretown BUZZ is back in print this month! If you see one of our delivery volunteers in your neighbourhood this weekend, please thank them for delivering in the cold and snow. Missed us last month? Our January…
From the managing editor’s desk
The Centretown BUZZ is online-only this month. The BUZZ board made this difficult decision in early January, after careful consideration, because of the current lockdown and the increasingly dire news from Ottawa’s medical officer of health. We did not want to put our volunteer delivery team at risk.
Managing editor’s note
Alayne McGregor Truly, this month is the “winter of our discontent.” We’re seeing not only the effects but the side effects of COVID-19. We’ve lost dear friends to conditions undiagnosed because of hospital backlogs. The ByTowne Cinema, an Ottawa institution,…
A message from the editor of the BUZZ

A note from the editor
Marna NightingaleKathryn Hunt As the Buzz went to press, we felt compelled to comment on Mayor Watson’s op-ed in the Ottawa Citizen: “After 40 years I’m opening the closet door.” We have both, over the years, been critical of Watson’s…

Editor’s Note: Local papers shut down? We’re still here
by Kathryn Hunt Managing Editor A major loss in local journalism happened last month, when a deal struck between Postmedia and Torstar saw a large number of small newspapers traded and shut down. Ottawa will lose a number of local…
Love The BUZZ? Here’s what you can do
by Kathryn Hunt Managing Editor A community newspaper runs on volunteers, and The BUZZ is no different. Every month, we turn to members of our neighbourhood to tell us what’s important to them, what’s happening on their street, and what…
From the editor’s desk: Happy birthday! Looking ahead
by Kathryn Hunt On October 2 and 3, we got together to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this paper’s first issue. There was a party for our volunteers and supporters, and a session the next day to look at our…
